JFY Inverter Review

JFY Inverter Review

How does the JFY inverter stack up against the rest?

Well so far, we’ve had a look at many different inverters including SMA, Aurora, CMS and Growatt. JFY is another Chinese inverter manufacturer. The big point to notice about this company though is it’s history as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) company. This is a HUGE bonus. A company with background expertise in UPS systems must make a pretty decent inverter… Right? By the way, JFY is also known as Shenzhen JingFuYuan Tech.Co.,Ltd. which is the name it uses under it’s CEC accredited inverter listing.

UPDATE: May 2016 – Our dealings with JFY to date have revealed that their business practice is not fantastic. Not only have we had many customer’s complain about inverter failures, but JFY have been extremely difficult to deal with. We placed an order for goods, JFY accepted. After money was sent they said they couldn’t fulfill the order. Instead they offered other products we weren’t wanting. So they gave a refund, but deducted hundreds for “bank fees”. We will never deal with JFY inverters again.

The JFY Inverter Range

OK so if you go and look at this JFY website here you’ll see that it doesn’t look very high tech. I mean, to be quite frank… It looks shit-house. It does, however, give you an overview of their range. The official JFY inverter and UPS website is here and gives you a much better experience.

The JFY inverter range includes:

  • The single-string JSI series (JSI-1500TL, JSI-2000TL, JSI-3000TL, JSI-5000TL & JSI-6000TL)
  • The dual-string SUNTWINS series (SUNTWINS 3300TL, SUNTWINS 4000TL & SUNTWINS 5000TL)
  • The 3 phase SUNTREE series (SUNTREE-5000TL, SUNTREE-6000TL, SUNTREE-8000TL, SUNTREE-10000TL & SUNTREE-12000TL)

Pretty simple right?

The Good Things About JFY

JFY is a reasonably large company and more experienced one than some of the other Chinese inverter garbage out there. They have a solid background in electrical product manufacturing they have been in business since 2003.

The JFY inverter that you buy gives you:

  • Reasonable efficiency, proven as one of the best Chinese products available
  • Fair performance (they are a good, sturdy product and not highly likely to fail)
  • A cheaper alternative to many other inverter brands

Of course, you do get the odd inverter failure which JFY will replace under their 5 year warranty policy. This has happened too often recently in my experience and the process for replacement is always a hassle. I’m very impressed by the JFY inverter range, but they don’t quite cut the cheese in terms of service.

Did you know that the JFY SUNTWINS 5000TL inverter allows up to 6,580W of solar panels on the input? This is ok to do under the CEC guidelines on this machine.

What’s Not Great About The JFY Inverter?

OK so JFY is a good experienced company with a pretty decent product, so what are the drawbacks?

  • No office in Australia
  • Not as good as the SMA
  • Poor customer support
  • Poor business practices

That’s about it to be honest. If you want a half-decent solar inverter that does the job, without the hefty price tag, I’d consider JFY as a possible contender.

  1. Mine just died so the electrician got a replacement in about a month so that’s ok it was 2 years old, think when I get a bit more money I will buy a better brand one as this one maybe only last as long as the other, we’ll see.

  2. I live in Melbourne Australia and I have had my Solar system installed in my house since 2012. In 2014 my solar inverter failed and I contacted JFY. This inverter was replaced with a new unit and a further 5yr warranty.
In 2016, my inverter failed again. It took me 3months to get a replacement unit and now I find out the replacement unit is a refurbished unit. I contacted JFY in Aus and they told me they are subcontractors who deal with warranty issues only. The subcontractor told me that JFY replace solar inverters in Aus with refurbished units since 2014 and as it is a refurbished unit, the original warranty still applies, no new warranty. This is not a good practice and make you wonder if this is all worth the worry. Possibly worth originally purchasing another make with better warranty policy to make your life easier.

    • 21/12/2016. I contacted JFY with regards to my inverter giving up the ghost. I was promised phone calls back and after pestering them finally was sent a technician from another company (Go Solar) to replace my faulty unit. I was informed the replacement was a re-furbished one and that to his knowledge was not going to be covered by any form of warranty. I rang my installer, Solar Naturally whom provided me with the service department number for JFY, wow now it gets interesting. Speaking with Fanny at JFY service department I was advised the following:
      1. After explaining my concerns was advised she had no supervisor! She was only the service department and I would need to contact the manufacturer, guess what, she did not have their phone number, hello alarm bells. Her advice was to go back to the installer.
      2. My first contact regarding this complaint was 21/12/2016. so I have not had 20 solar panels doing the job, 4 months. Solar Naturally where polite and I am now promised a call from Shaun the operations manager. This call I am waiting for. In the interim I have been advised that Solar Naturally no longer use JFY, wonder why!!
      3. I, like all of us we went into this solar energy for financial reasons and the environment. My husband whom passed away last April would be appalled at the passing of the buck I am going through.
My warranty expires in October this year and I don’t feel confident that our $7,195.45 investment is secure in performing much longer after this time. Those whom are thinking of taking the steps to install solar do your homework.
WATCH THIS PAGE; I will keep you all informed how I get on

  3. Had an installer fit the JFY invertor under 2 years ago, I have had to constantly reset the unit, My installer now tells me it needs replacement as it is dead, he told me that JFY would contact me as JFY now send out their own techs, I have not had a call so I rang him back got their details and called
them, what an experience, really hard to understand the woman on the phone,
I explained the situation for her to then tell me we are to far way so they will not send a tech, they will however send a replacement unit with TNT, I explained that my wife and I work long hrs and TNT will require a signature before leaving anything these days, so I asked if this could be sent to my work address, flatly NO cant be done, I was then told that the norm is 1 month before a replacement unit would be sent, and to contact my installer to refit it, The answer is I still do know how this will get replaced and I suggest anyone looking at this product have a bloody good long think about it before purchasing their products, after having imported many products from Chinese companies through my business I have found this be pretty standard, take your money and you want What- Warranty and Service, they do not know the meaning of these words ,

  4. As an installer, I regrettably installed a replacement JFY, within 6 months it failed, then comes the nightmare…..ringing the service centre, you are greeted by a woman who clearly knows nothing about customer care or service, told me a replacement would be impossible as they are out of stock, its been 3 weeks now and she claims it could be another month!
I don’t hold any hopes of getting one, anyone reading this, please do yourself a huge favour and avoid this company, their inferior products and their non existent warranty.

    • Sorry for that. JFY’ll pay more attention to customer care. For some reasons JFY was struggled with the marketing issus with importers in 2016. But in 2017 JFY has improved a lot its service quality. JFY is trying its best to fix the business relations with PV installers. JFY is quite a reliable supplier, providing good budget solution for the comsumers. New product has been released, with good quality, low price, wifi monitoring (optional) for easy maintanance.

  5. I have 3 JFY 1500tl inverters at my house ,installed in 2012 so far 2 have failed !
The installer Fourie industries in Perth have been Great & supportive !
Have just applied for the senond replacement but have been advised that I could be in for some hassle !
    Will post the results .

  6. We had our solar panels installed and just over 12 months has passed. Now we need a new inverter. We have been waiting & obviously our system has been off for just over a month (Guess who will be paying a synergy bill again as the solars seemed to have covered that cost). after reading the information on this website I contacted our Solar provider and asked if our replacement inverter will be a refurbished one. She confirmed that it will be. I am going to have a look through our contract/ T&C’s again as I am sure this was not stated on any of the paperwork that we signed.

  7. All I can say is ditto to all of the comments above, I am now in the vicious cycle of who takes responsiability for an electrican to intall my replacement inverter, granted i have recieved a replacement ( that took six weeks even though I live in the same state) but nobody, JFY or the retailer Aust Home Services will refund me for an electrican to install the replacement inverter, and as far as JFY’s customer service rep, well she is just down right rude and evasive, infact she hung up on me, I dread the day that this unit expires and I have to deal with JFY again.

  8. I had a solar system installed in February, 2016, by GREEN LIGHT SOLAR. It appeared to be working , as there was a small reduction on 2 of my electricity accounts after a long wait to have it certified. Then nothing. Nothing on any accounts. I would press the button on the JFY and then a message came on, ‘faulty’ something or other. The Electricity mob told me it was not working. So I started ringing up, only to find they had gone out of business. Fortunately I had a little card with the installers telephone on it. I ran him. He no longer worked for G.L.S. But he knew someone who handled the complaints. I ran him, but he was going home to India in a couple of weeks. I ran the installer again, and he told me about a bloke, ‘he thought his name was Mick’. I had to ring him. Rang ‘Mick’, helloooooo, got the number for JFY. Had to send a photo of the Inverter and a photo of the contract to them and they would send out a replacement inverter (which took a month to arrive) Am now waiting on an electrician to come over from Mildura to change it over. It has not worked since last November until this date, 6.11.17 12 months. For anyone who wants to know, JFY is at ALTECH, Unit 1, 67 Mons street, Lidcombe 2141 The job cost me $7030.00.

    • The JFY’s service website is http://www.jfytech.com.au/
You can easily post your cliam there and then request for the status of your service claim. If it’s approved, JFY’s service centre will arrange the replacement for you. You can also talk to JFY’s manager through the online windows in the website http://www.jfy-tech.com (switch to english version). We’ll try our best to help you with the claim.

  9. Being through 4 inverters in 12 months each time they give you a re con one that like its being rolling around in the back of someone’s Ute worst product ever !

    • Sorry Brad. Could you please leave your contact or your JFY’s service claim number ? Then JFY team can contact you for more details. JFY’s product has been upgrade, single phase Sunleaf/Sunseed series, with good quality, low price and wifi monitoring for easy maintainance.

  10. I don’t know much about solar, inverters or DC Isolators, but we had solar fitted by Great Solar,(no longer around), they used JFY, Suntwins 3300Tl inverter, panel brand Linuo. Well guess what, yesterday morning, the DC Isolator on the roof was on FIRE. AC Isolator has been locked by Ergon Energy until I can get a Solar Electrician to look at the situation. Firies said the panel near the roof DC Isolator will need to be replaced. Reading above comments, it appears I am going to have a hell of a time getting things sorted out and hopefully not too costly. Installed Oct 2012 so I guess my warranty has expired.

  11. Hi,
    I write from Hungary, Europe.
We ordered hundreds of JFY inverters and unfortunately a significant part (10-20%) of them went wrong within 2 years.
We asked for the warranty – nothing happened, just promises. In our market with this business behavior there is no future for this manufacturer.
As they solve the problem I will share the news.

  12. I don’t know much about solar, inverters or DC Isolaters, but panels were installed 2012 using JFY 2000 (JSI-2000TL)…..Now our Solar power has stopped working. Looks like we not be covered by warranty and a google of the internet indicates JFY is no longer listed as CEC compliant with AS/NZS 5033, so no longer to be sold in Aus. Well that was a wonderful purchase …NOT

  13. Well it appears that I’m not alone. Solarworldpower is just as hard to deal with. I understand that JFY inverters failed the safe isolation test in 2017 and they were forced off the market.( Apparently they have been modified and retested because they are back on the market – I think). This was a surprise as my inverter was replaced in January 2017 which means that I have a non compliant inverter. My inverter failed Jan 2019 and I am having difficulty getting anyone from Solarworldpower or JFY to talk through my issue. My inverter failed due to error 06 Relay Failure. I mucked around for 3 days and decided to isolate the solar panels over 10 hrs. Switched the panel on and inverter had corrected itself.

  14. Was told by a Frank from JFY that my faulty inverter warranty was approved on Jan 9th this year. A replacement would be sent within in four weeks . It is now over 8 weeks and still nothing, Company do not respond to emails . The 1300 phone number does not answer. Very bad customer service . This company and their products should be avoided . DO NOT touch their stuff. Where and who is Frank. The sales manager in China just hand balls any email straight to this Frank who does nothing. My next step is to lodge a complaint with the Accc against this company. It is not good enough. I invite all who are having problems with this company to do the same. The more complaints, the better , bring them on guys .
