Sungrow Inverter Review

Sungrow are a large Chinese inverter manufacturer. This Sungrow inverter review will aim to assess whether or not the Sungrow inverter offers a good product at a reasonable price. On their international website, Sungrow claim to be the #2 inverter manufacturer globally by MW capacity. That’s impressive. Sungrow inverters are simple, flexible and robust. They have built in wireless monitoring (which is awesome). Overall, they seem like a solid product. Let’s take a closer look.

Sungrow Inverter Review – Company Background

Sungrow have an Australian website, a phone number (1800 786 476) you can call and have been around since 1997. They have a streamlined after-sales service process and an awesome wireless… Right I’m getting carried away here, let’s save the features. The company is solid, it’s big and it practices what it preaches (solar panels on the roof). It was started by a Chinese guy in China and the product speaks for itself. Unlike some other products, Sungrow inverters don’t pretend to be anything but Chinese – instead of feigning European design, they get down to business. The business of being awesome.

Sungrow Inverter Review KTL-S
Here is a KTL-S inverter (the KTL-D series looks the same)

Sungrow do inverters, and they do them well. Their range is extensive enough without being over the top. They have residential inverters from 2kW up to 5kW. All of their inverters have built in WiFi functionality – allowing you to easily monitor your solar power system from any device! Sungrow inverters are about as good as they come.

Here is some of the Sungrow inverter range:

  • KTL-S Series (single string)
  • KTL-D Series (dual string)
  • Heaps of larger inverters for commercial projects including a 60kW, 99% efficient inverter!

These inverters do the trick. They turn solar (DC) into home (AC) power. Not only that but they do it efficiently! The 30kW unit scored a AA rating in the recent Photon inverter tests. Their 4kW unit scored an A! So excellent results all round as far as efficiency and performance goes.

And we all know that unlike solar panels, inverters ARE their efficiency.

Sungrow Inverter Review – Disadvantages

So Sungrow inverters are a Chinese inverter. Some people are outright against Chinese made stuff for some reason. Most things these days are made in China. China is the global powerhouse in manufacturing. More sensible folk realise that both good and bad products can come out of any country, it really comes down to product quality. Sungrow have impeccable product quality. Even to the point where they out-do Euro inverters like SMA!

They could have a nicer, shinier website, but overall they have a good product at a good price.

Sungrow Inverter Review Summary

Sungrow inverters offer a solid inverter product at a very good price. If that’s not value I don’t know what is.

  1. Sungrow have my vote, as an electrician myself I installed a 4kw sungrow inverter along with topsola panels to match on my own residence, performance was really good until I could smell a burning smell! Upon inspection I found a burnt out triac in inverter, I approached sungrow for a spare as my unit I thought was out of warranty, the phone call to sungrow was answered by andy who was extremely helpful and said a new unit would be shipped out asap… 2 days later a new inverter rolled up, ( I was happy to repair old unit ) so I filled out all required paperwork / photos and sent the failed unit back! The system has been working flawlessly ever since, and the wifi connectivity and digital mapping make keeping track of performance so easy! Great products in my experience!

  2. Not many reviews!
Unit failed very early, not a good recommendation… Sure, allegedly was replaced within a couple of days, but who needs the inconvenience and the cost of an electrician as we are not doing it ourself!
Flawlessly for 3 months? I expect at least 10 years!

  3. Cheap inverter . We have had 2 replaced in 2 years. 1st inverter stopped firing up after 2 months. 5 week wait for replacement. 2nd inverter and the wireless fizzled 13 months in. All i can si is hope this one stands tall for some time. As good as SMA, I would have to assume NOT!!

  4. Sungrow may be an avarage Inverter, compaired to Growatt, Kostal and Fronius..however their Guarantees are not worth the paper they are written on. I was a Sungrow client here in Cyprus, and I know the company that represented Sungrow in Cyprus has over 60 faulty inverters which Sungrow refuses to replace/repair. The company here was decent enough to replace my faulty Sungrow with a Growatt, and I have not had a problem since.
